"Princess Alison"

Sporadic Rant:

The About BBoCS section has finally been added, but it's not quite complete yet.

Alright, today's strip is somewhat weird and whimsical. It's slightly funnier if you know the story behind it, too. Since I started drawing this strip, I've been getting ideas for various comics at the oddest times (often during class). Since I can't always just whip out my materials and start drawing during class (or whenever I'm getting an idea), I started bringing along some Post-It notes upon which I'll scribble a few ideas.

Alison sits next to me during Alogorithms and Data Structures and she saw the Post-It note. She wanted to see the ideas I had for future strips, and so I passed her the Post-It. She gave it back, and then I noticed she had added a new comic idea to the top: Princess Alison. Obviously, she meant it as a joke, but I decided to do a strip based on it on a lark. Robin then got ahold of the Post-It note and wrote, "Tim's true feelings for Dr. Mitra come out." We all started to laugh and then Tim added, "Tim beats his friends to death with a wet angelhair pasta noodle." Then I had to take the Post-It away.

Okay, I said slightly funnier, not so much funnier after you know the story that you'll fall out of your seat laughing and drown on the stream of spittle that shoots out of your mouth like a geyser.

The art is a notch up from what I usually do for the strip, don't ask me why. I just felt like investing a little more time in it than usual. For once, a character's eyebrows are distinct from the eyelashes; but don't look to see this again unless I do another comic based on pure whimsy. Before anything else, I loved to draw science fiction and fantasy art, so I guess the medieval princess bit was a bit too much to pass up for my creative side. I thought I drew a pretty cool dragon, too. Thank you, thank you very much. Tim also thought that Princess Alison should have gotten some of her loyal subjects to kill the dragon for her, but I explained today's Princess goes out and slays her own dragons. Tim then suggested that I change the title to "Bastard-Stabbing Princess Alison." I was tempted, but that title would violate the two-word scheme I've been following so far.

Don't ask me if I was trying to be deep or anything by the coloring scheme, it just happened. It's deep on a 2-bit psychological level, but besides that, not really. The reason the comic is signed, dated, and titled by hand is that I didn't originally intend to use this as a comic when I drew it up. I thought it was too strange and "girly", but Alison and Tim convinced me to use it. Alison is now the proud owner of an original Nicholas Yu, and I'm sure it'll profit her thousands and thousands of pennies when it goes up over eBay.

Don't forget to download a blank copy of Tuesday's strip so that you can fill it out and submit it by midnight tonight. Best comic gets put up sometime thereafter and the author will get much love and adoration.
