"Asian Brother"

Sporadic Rant:
Yes, I was upset by the Pacers being defeated by the Lakers in the NBA Finals. I was secretly hoping they could pull off an upset. Having lived in Indianapolis for 8 years and attending as many home and playoff games as possible has pretty much made me a Pacers fan for life. We can only hope that the team won't totally disintegrate next year, what with the coaching and possible roster changes due to free agency.

Today's comic came late because my de facto summer itinerary has boiled down to this:

Things to Do This Summer:
  • Play basketball
  • Injure self
  • I pulled my back (you guessed it) playing basketball. My ankle still isn't 100%, yet that inner demon compelled me to go and play some more basketball. Against guys who can dunk, no less. There's just something about basketball that lights my competitive fires in a way no other sport does. No doubt a lingering effect of all the time I spent in Indiana. It also challenges me in a way that other sports don't, since I have so many natural disadvantages, namely being 5'6". I have a great tennis physique (good hand-eye coordination, quick footspeed, muscular thighs and calves), but the game just doesn't appeal to me. I don't get satisfaction out of playing tennis. But when I go up and get a rebound over a guy who can dunk, well, that's pretty damn satisfying. Unfortunately, as Isiah Thomas said, "You can't teach height."

Since this comic was updated so late in the day, I'll leave it up until noon or so tomorrow.
