Sporadic Rant:
Not too much to talk about today, except that I noticed a whole lot (enough to qualify for a metric fuck ton) of similarities between the opening invasion in Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan and the storming of the Third Castle in Kurosawa's Ran. And it's not like we don't know that Spielberg loves Japanese films, inasmuch as he called the car chase in the anime movie Castle of Cagliostro the best ever filmed. I guess it's not copying, it's an homage. ;) I'm not trying to rip on Spielberg (whom I consider one of the world's greatest entertainers), who obviously meant the scene as a sort of tribute, but rather the ignorant film critics and reviewers who went on and on about the stunning realism of the scene and failed to mention Ran whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another reason to revere Kurosawa as one of the greatest filmmakers ever; that, and I can't believe I left Yojimbo and Rashomon off my list of must-have Kurosawa films yesterday.
For those of you clamoring for the next episode in the anime installment, all I can say is that I'm working on it. Whether it comes tomorrow or two weeks from now is anyone's guess.
