Sporadic Rant:
Contest time! Check out this link for more details. There's just under a week to go, don't delay! Deadline: Sept. 21, 2000. Also, the call for fan art has gone out, so mail me those fabulous renditions of the BBoCS characters.

I just want you to appreciate today's comic more than you usually do because I climbed out of my deathbed to update today. Okay, so deathbed is an exaggeration but not by much. Here's how my day went:

  • 09:00: Wake up
  • 09:05: Throw up
  • 09:10: Shower
  • 09:35: Inhale breakfast, run off to class
  • 09:45: Sleep through class
  • 11:15: Come home, throw up
  • 12:00: Eat lunch
  • 12:30: Lose lunch
  • 01:00: Sleep until evening

As you can see, it wasn't the most promising day ever. You can make me feel better by pimping this site to all your friends and posting in the forum. I've been pushing 1500 hits a day, but I can't seem to quite get over the cusp. I'd eventually like to see something like 2000 a day, but I can be patient about that. Look for the site to get redesigned fairly soon. This simple five-minute hack job was okay back when I was just putting the comic up for about 20 people, but I think it requires something at least a little bit nicer now.

Here are some more URLs for your enjoyment:

http://fly.to/Slackers - The author pleaded with me for a plug, so I just couldn't refuse.
http://www.fishandworm.com - The author is a nice guy, so I had to give him a link, too.
http://www.justanothervice.com - JAV is back from hiatus, so you should all rush back to it and embrace its beer-guzzling bear goodness.
http://www.sporkman.com - SporkMan is a quality comic that has a good shot at making Keenspot pretty soon, so head over there and give it some support.

Sometimes I know exactly what I want to do with a comic and it goes off without a hitch. Other times I struggle to achieve the original vision. And sometimes what comes out is totally different than what went in. Today's comic is one such example. What started out as a lame "answering the professor while half-asleep" gag turned out rather funny, in my opinion, although the rest of the comic isn't that funny compared to the first panel. Again, I have to clarify that this is only my opinion, an opinion which has been proven wrong time and time again by you, the viewing audience. I'm far too close to the joke to get a good laugh out of most of the comics I draw, so I have very little sense of what will or will not be funny to others. Some of the comics I love, others loathe, and those I enjoy, they despise. Case in point, an e-mail I received after Wednesday's news post:

Subject: Hey! That comic is not "horribly unfunny"! =)

First off, excellent comic. You're on my list to read every afternoon (and have been for a while). Excellent. The next part of this mail is in regards to your Rant on today's (yesterday's.. whatever..) comic:

The comic that you mention as being "horribly unfunny" is actually one of my favorites.. I don't know why exactly, but I'm sure it has to do with the "Ball: You are my friend. You are my compatriot. You are my secret lover." line.. anyway, just thought you should know that at least someone likes that comic. =)

As long as I'm sharing e-mail, here's another one I got. I'm not sure how exactly to interpret it.

Thanks, I guess. Also, I won't share this really bizarre e-mail I got, but this person kept referring to me as "my lord" and kept asking me for personal information about myself. Should I consider this my first cyberstalker?
