"Another Nudge"

Sporadic Rant:
Contest time! The contest has finally ended. I'll be tallying up results over the weekend, hopefully in time to announce winners by Monday or Wednesday.

Another relatively soft-spoken comic today. I was a little worried at first that this comic might be deemed offensive, but then I discovered that it wasn't that funny, much less offensive. ;) I almost had a heart attack yesterday when I checked my e-mail and found a message from Digital River saying that my copy of the Collector's Edition of Baldur's Gate II had been back-ordered. I was all ready to use the rant today to scream all sorts of profanities about Interplay and their incredible short-sightedness and inability to predict customer demand; fortunately for all parties involved, I received another e-mail a few hours later saying that my order had been processed and shipped. And yes, I'll start shutting up about BGII any day now. Yup, any day now. BGII. BGII. BGII.

My mailbox has been absolutely flooded with BBoCS-related e-mail lately. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but why don't you all start using the (insert trumpet fanfare) brand new UBB Forum instead? That way, everyone can share in on the fun! Yay! The BBoCS forum isn't the main forum because eventually the rest of the HotZP site will be utilizing said forum as well.

Let me clear out some of my inbox, though, and share a few e-mails with you. First off, I have to thank Darrel Spice, Jr. for pointing out various broken links and the glaring fact that the color was off on the new buttons in the redesign. I simply never noticed because I always run my computer at 32-bit color. PsychoKick mailed me about a kung-fu UT mutator called Kakutou. I haven't had the leisure to play around with it yet, but you can find it here. A Mr. Josh Parker has started up his own webcomic called Blue Wasabi. There's not much there right now, but it certainly looks quite promising. The site's going public in a couple of weeks, but I thought I'd share a sneak peek with you. I guess that's one of my tiny perks from being a webcomics artist, getting cool links to check out. Also, a big thanks out to Christopher Chiu who hooked me up with all the episodes of Kare Kano. Another reader wrote me, saying that she liked the rants but didn't care all that much for the comic itself. Oh well, as long as she keeps coming back for something. One last e-mail to share for now as I don't want this entire news post to consist of nothing but e-mail.

Subject: Jiggy Muppets

First of all, I'd like to say that I'm a big fan.

Second of all, I'd like to let you in on a little story:

About a month ago, I was working on a software project of mine, debugging and so forth, when my life was interrupted by work. Putting my project on hold, it was left in a state of debug. Within the last week I have found the time to start working on it again, when much to my surprise it doesn't work like it should. The problem turns out to be a bit of code I was debugging; my problem had become I couldn't remember why I was working on that bit of code, and what purpose it could possibly serve. So I started complaining about Jiggy Muppets, and Josh (the writer of Avalon who was sitting beside me) tells me to shut up about Jiggy Muppets. Knowing he's an avid reader of your comic, I asked him if he remembered what a Jiggy Muppet was. He said no, so I refreshed his memory. He now thinks it's hilarious that someone has started using the term Jiggy Muppet as a technical term.

Thanks for finally putting a name to something which most people experience from time to time (some of us more than others).

James Moore

Funny stuff. Keep this in mind and be inspired by Mr. Moore's example: The next time you can't remember why you did something, keeping saying "Jiggy Muppet" until someone tells you to shut up. :)

A few more links to go. I myself will shut up soon, promise. The President and COO of Sega of America recently testified before the US Senate Commitee on Commerce about the video game industry. Here's the full transcript. And here you'll find an utterly hilarious story from Gabe of Penny Arcade. It's pure comic genius, I tell you.

And before I complete the process of shutting up, I'll let you know how completely miserable I felt today. I've been recovering pretty steadily, but that all went out the window last night. About 10 PM last night (a couple of hours after I got off work -- during which I felt totally fine), my fever came back with a vengeance. This morning, it was all I could do to drag myself out of bed and get to the computer. I had just started catching up on all my work, and there I was, struggling mightily to get dressed (and losing to a pair of pants, I might add). If this post seems extra long, it's because I'm not able to do much beyond move around the bedroom, mope, and sleep a lot. I hate being sick. I'm going back to sleep, damn it.

Go post in the BBoCS forum already.
