"Vent Core"

It turns out the "penis" game is popular amongst those with an adolescent mindset in such various places as Wyoming, Indiana, New York, and even Canada. I got some pretty funny e-mail about it. Everyone thought it was unique to their individual locale, but the popularity of yelling "penis" out in public seems fairly widespread. There's no shortage of immature males out there, nosiree!

Today's comic is only partially embellished. Andy did get fairly wasted the other night, but he didn't go so far as to take off Tim's pants and run around screaming things from Marathon. That would've been pretty funny, though. Robin took a few pictures of the evening's festivities, so as soon as I get my grubby paws on them, they'll be posted.

I'm consciously trying to make this news post a bit beefier to compensate for this week's short rants, so I'll answer a couple of FAQs.

Question: Why isn't Su Hoay in the comic?

Answer: I think I touched on this earlier, but never really in depth. Su Hoay is certainly an integral part of my life (one might correctly say THE integral part of my life), but she's neither "bad" nor a "boy" nor that great at "computer science." Robin and Alison were made honorary guys, and they're the comic's necessary female comic foils. You'll note that Robin and Ali's boyfriends don't put in appearances, and Andy's significant other only appeared once and had no speaking lines. This isn't a relationship comic. It's a wacky comic about a wacky group of wacky friends and their semi-wacky adventures. This is not to say that it might not take a more serious turn in the future, but for now I'm pretty happy with the way it's going. That's the rationalized reason she's not in the strip. The real reason is that our relationship is a private special thing, and I don't intend to trivialize it by trying to make it funny in three panels or less. What does that mean? I have no idea, but for some reason it feels "wrong" to put her in the comic.

Question: Why aren't you on Keenspot?

Answer: The answer to that is pretty simple: They haven't asked. Honestly, though, I'm not sure if I would accept if invited at this point. I get better numbers (hits and pageviews) than most of the Keenspot comics already, so there's no real pressing need to join other than for the ad banner revenue; but the pay is not significant nor have I ever intended to make this comic a profitable venture. Sure, it'd be nice to say, "Look! The community tells me that I'm good enough to be counted among the elite!" But I can survive without being a part of Keenspot. I would have jumped at the opportunity a few months ago, but now I'm not so sure what my answer would be.

Question: Are those the only questions you're going to answer today?

Answer: Yes.

Also, I did a bit of fan art for MegaTokyo today. If you miss the link in Largo's post, you can catch it here. You may also have noticed that I expanded the "Comics I read without fail" list to 10. It's a nice round number. I read a lot more webcomics than that, but if I was stranded on a desert island with a laptop that could only store the bookmarks for 10 webcomics, those would be the ones. I also have enough fan art now to warrant a second page! Note: This doesn't mean that I have enough fan art to sate my needs.
