"Ugh" pretty much sums up my reaction to today's comic, too. It isn't terribly original or humorous, but I did manage to get a chuckle out of drawing Andy as a moogle, so maybe someone else will think that's funny as well. Apologies to Poe of Exploitation Now who does a much better drawn comic featuring a moogle. I went through some major writer's block or something, even though I had a plethora of comic ideas jotted down on a notepad. Things that I thought would be funny turned into utter crap when I tried to translate them to the comic medium. The drawings may look simplistic and much of the humor sophomoric; but believe me, kiddies, it ain't easy. I'm pretty sure I'll bounce back in form on Wednesday, but we can only hope.
I watched a lot of anime over the weekend. I watched the second DVD of Rurouni Kenshin and the first DVD of the Kenshin OAV series, titled "Samurai X" for no apparent reason other than to annoy the original fanbase. I'm getting pretty sick of ADV for trying to have their way with the fans. I was okay with 3 episodes per tape of Bubblegum Crisis 2040, but I stopped buying it shortly after they went to 2 episodes per tape. Now they're trying to pass off 2 episodes per DVD as well. What a load of crap. They would do well to learn from companies like Bandai and Media Blasters who don't try to bite the hands that feed them. I also picked up the first DVD of "Vision of Escaflowne." I had seen a couple of fansubs a couple of years ago, but I never got to finish the entire series because my friend had loaned out the remaining tapes to someone who ended up never returning them. I can never wake up before noon on Saturdays, so I haven't been watching it on Fox, either; not that it would matter now, as Fox has put Escaflowne on indefinite hiatus. I put both Cowboy Bebop vol. 6 and Transformers: The Movie on my wish list over at Express.com, and it turns out they come out on the same day. My only dilemma will be which to watch first when the package arrives.
I took Su Hoay to the movies on Sunday, and we watched Jackie Chan's Drunken Master. I had seen an old bootleg copy of it about 5 or 6 years ago, so I was glad to finally be able to view a nice clean version of the film, and on the silver screen no less! I have to agree with many Jackie Chan fans in that this is probably his finest film. The fight sequences (especially the last one, of course) are amazing, and Jackie Chan himself is in top physical and comedic form. As a bonus, we were treated to a trailer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Tiger, the fancypants martial arts movie directed by Ang Lee and starring Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh. My brother was lucky enough to catch it at the theatre when he was in Taiwan, but I have to wait until frickin' December until I can watch it. Bastard. After watching the trailer, which I have so kindly downloaded for your viewing pleasure, I thought it was funny to see how Hong Kong movies have changed. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon seems to be a product of Hong Kong movies affecting American movies (like The Matrix), which in turn influenced Hong Kong movies right back.
As for the weekend controversy, Terry Harjanto sent me a conciliatory e-mail containing an apology, so this issue is over as far as I'm concerned. Discuss this further in the forums if you feel you must, but I think that it would be rather fruitless at this juncture. As Dana Carvey as George Bush (the semi-respectable one) might say if you traveled back in time 10 years, "Wouldn't be prudent."
Post in the BBoCS forum or be blacklisted from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Do you think I might be looking forward to the movie? ;)
