Faithful readers of Planet Zarquon will recognize a familiar face in today's comic. I wanted to include someone who's as much an unabashed fan of the honorable Tycho Brahe as I am, and Anjela fit the bill quite nicely. I think this week will be filled with cameos and I shall dub it (in a most uninspired fashion) Cameo Week. Look for a few appearances from a select group of webcomics stars, though I think I might introduce lesser known folk instead of featuring characters with whom you may already be intimately familiar. So far, I've hit some big ones: Avalon, College Roomies from Hell!!!, Exploitation Now, and MegaTokyo. Who'll be next, I wonder. Since it'll be a lot easier to come up with material for this week, I'll attempt to do a M-F update schedule and get up 4 comics and use one the days to serve as the next batch of BBRO entries.
Now as for the content in today's comic, some of you may or may not know that your friend and mine, Jerry Holkins a.k.a (CW) Tycho Brahe of Penny Arcade fame was ungraciously asked to leave his apartment by his landlord because Mr. Holkins and his wife had the temerity to ask to live in a domicile free of vicious attack rats. I think we can also all commiserate with their temporary dearth of internet access. Luckily, Gabe is still around so you can still enjoy the fantastic stylings of MWF PA goodness. An aside here for a moment, my friend Brian described my MWF update schedule as not being Monday-Wednesday-Friday but instead "Maybe, Whenever, and the Fourteenth." ;)
Some other bits of news coming your way, whether you care or not. I have an unhealthy addiction to Pocky, if you couldn't tell from Friday's strip. I've been eating it on and off for many many years now, but I've suddenly noticed that it's suddenly started to become popular with guay lo fan as well. ;) I try not to eat too much when I buy it, but it's awfully hard to resist when the segret ingredient is CRACK COCAINE. I mean, H-e-double hockey sticks, it has to be. There's no other way to explain it. If there's an Asian store in your nearby vicinity, you can probably pick up a box of Pocky for a dollar or two. If not, you can always try spiffy websites such as JapaneseSnacks.com. (Thanks, kaganos!) My personal recommendation is the strawberry, though Su Hoay has a predilection for their chocolatey concoctions, and I have it on good account that the almond variety is most delightfully succulent. You'll have to forgive my overly pedantic writing style today, I think I'm overcompensating for the unmaterialized news post for Friday.
Movie news: I saw the Coen Brothers' latest film -- O Brother, Where Art Thou? This is the most enjoyable comedy I've seen since Bowfinger (which wasn't nearly as good as this). I'm not sure the film will apply to a broad audience, but anyone who's a fan of the Coen Brothers or doesn't mind a whimsical romp that's part Homeric and part Sturges' '60s comedy will really dig this film. It's technically flawless and thoroughly enjoyable, so I really have to give this movie a 10 out of 10. The only caveat is that the style of the movie itself may not be to your liking. I've enjoyed the Coen Brothers ever since Blood Simple and my love of their work has only increased through Raising Arizona, Fargo, and The Big Lebowski. I feel that I'm leaving out one of their movies; it'll probably come to me right before I go to bed tonight. ;)
Also, one of my contacts in Taiwan acquired a copy of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on VCD -- a VCD that's being mailed to yours truly as we speak. :)
One last headline, and a fairly important one, before even my most faithful fans are rendered unconscious by the gargantuan length of this post: An acquaintance of mine here at Brockport by the name of Phil Fielding will be taking over writing duties for The Adventures of Superman starting in April for a stint of 8 months. I believe that means that his first scripted comic will actually appear in May or June. I might actually have to go out and buy comic books again just for that. This is his "big break" into the industry, so go out and support him. ;)
We don't have no stinkin' newbies in the BBoCS Forum; we have "moobies" instead.
