"Passing Grade"

Link of the day: Sunday Morning Coffee by Tang and Clay. Not everyone gets to be found drunk and naked outside an attractive lesbian's apartment. But in my defense, I wasn't really all that drunk. This is all because I never drew nipples, right?

Link that you were supposed to click on last Friday but probably didn't you rat bastard: The Four Toon Tellers. Just do it. Check out great comics like Framed, Untitled Again, and others!

First impressions of Black and White? The game is fantastic. I haven't played any other game like it. Sure, you can pick out elements of Populous and even Tamagotchi-type games in it, but as a cohesive whole the game truly stands apart. I hesitate to call it a "strategy" game. Even "God sim" seems not able to capture the entirety of the game at once. That being said, I have a HUGE HUGE problem with the game. Namely, my game froze up upon exiting; more specifically, during the automatic save when you exit. My game data was properly saved, but my all-important creature data was scrambled and lost. I mean, I had just gotten my leopard to really large proportions (not quite gargantuan, but clearly four or five times his original size) and his fur had taken on a magnificent golden hue due to his oh so very very compassionate nature. And now he's gone forever! *sob* I had just slogged my way through Land 3 without him for most of the duration, only to have him taken in the most cruel of ways. I'm hoping a forthcoming patch will address this "lock on exit" error, so I can hop back into the game without being fearful of losing my creature again. I'm a little too flustered to hop back into the game right away, but no doubt I'll be trying to raise another little critter soon.

Now how did I get a leopard in the first place? In case you missed it, three new animals are available to unlock here for one.

Also, without getting into it too much (or at all), let's just say today's topic about human cloning wasn't taken totally at random. Two scientific groups have publicly comitted to going ahead with research into human cloning. One of the groups is what you'd probably label the fringe element, but that doesn't mean they don't have the scientific muscle to bring something off. Right now, you could only get some grossly malformed and cancerous duplicate, but there are definitely some valid medical benefits to studying human cloning. But does that mean we should do it? Is this akin to the horrific Nazi medical research -- research that was done with the most callous disregard for human life yet yielded stunning results -- conducted during World War II? Is this a more serious and sinister way to play God than Black and White? I'll let you chew on those questions and come to your own conclusions.
