File Hosting Update: Thanks to everyone who volunteered space and bandwidth, but it looks like there's a good chance we'll be able to resolve the issue internally thanks to my good pal Chris. I'll keep you posted.
I did a rare weekend update, so don't forget to check it out and visit RPG World! Today's comic doesn't mean that I hate everyone who works a register, just this one girl in particular who absolutely refused ... refused to give me my change because she didn't understand the above transaction. I didn't actually end up yelling at her, though the nasty mean-spirited goblin part of me really wanted to. After several minutes of pointless verbal exchanges, she finally entered the numbers into the register with an uncomprehending shake of her head, her vapid expression changed as her eyes flamed alight with the glow of sudden comprehension. Her meek apology came in the form of "I'm not very good at math." I guess even she could tell that I was boiling over with impatience bordering on anger. I don't know whether it's because I was in a particularly volatile or foul mood or what, but I was ready to leap over the counter and snap her neck whilst yelling, "How do you like them apples, missie? Got the correct change for me now? Huh? Huh?" Maybe I should just be locked away for the good of society.
Two comic links to hand out today, both strong contenders for The Sexiest Webcomic Ever. Meaghan Quinn of Eat the Roses and Jess Idres of Yin and Yang have a friendly competition going as to who has the sexier webcomic. I'll leave it to your discretion as to whom to pick, but I strongly encourage you to visit both comics and give them your full sexy appraisal. To further reinforce their respective sexiness, the creators have come forward and presented themselves as sexy authors. Don't believe me? Here's the proof: Megs and Jess. As is said at MegaTokyo, "ph33r the cute ones."
And for a change of pace, allow me to interject a moment of seriousness into levity. I was originally going to write a rather large essay on my take on Sino-American relations, but instead of boring you all to tears I decided to keep it short and simple. As an American-born citizen, my loyalty obviously lies with the nation in which I was born and under whose guidance I grew up. If I were so called, I would fight and die for my country. Certainly not gladly nor with a reckless abandon, but I would pledge my life to defend The United States if it were needful. Thankfully, we live in times of relative peace and stability (at least in this hemisphere), so there are no immediate threats to America that I need to combat. However, the recent fracas with China over the crash between the US spy plane and China's fighter has everyone in an uproar.
My buddy Brian (whom some of you may know as Log) likened the situation to two creatures from Black and White flinging poop at each other. Truth be told, that's not too far off the mark. It's very hard to attribute a right and wrong here as no one has the clear higher moral ground. Yes, perhaps the downed and presumed deceased Chinese pilot had a reputation as a hot dog; but we don't know for sure that he caused the accident, do we? And the US is hardly innocent here. I mean, that is a plane that we sent to spy on them, right? We can hardly expect China to welcome the plane and crew with open arms. And their behavior about retaining the crew and the plane isn't any better than what's in our track record. Back in '75 when a Soviet fighter jet pilot defected to Japan, the US appropriated the MiG fighter and didn't return it for several weeks, for all the Soviets protested.
What I'm really trying to get at is this: Yes, let's rally around our country when we have to, but let's not do it out of blind patriotism or ignorance of all the facts. We don't know what happened, and we won't until there's been a thorough investigation. Yes, I think the US crewmen ought to be released; but would it really hurt the US to issue an apology? This isn't as long or as involved as I had originally planned, but it should be enough to spark your own thoughts/discussions with your peers.
