"Legal Matter"

Convention Notice! I'll be attending GeneriCon for sure in late January! I'm trying to obtain official Guest status and sit on a webcomics panel; I'll keep you posted as details are revealed.

I'm really dredging up the bottom of the Whimsical Cup o' Comic Ideas lately, going so far as to resurrect the most beloved one-shot character in BBoCS history, none other than Mr. Pocky himself. I got a chuckle out of the comic, though, so maybe it's not a total loss. I'm sure Shel will be at odds with herself, her affection over the concept expressed in the comic versus her urge to throttle me for using her full name. But it's a legal matter, so full names need to be used, right? ;)

Substance ... substance ... riiiight. Here we go. Adult Swim on Cartoon Network: It rocks. I laughed more during Adult Swim than I have at anything else on TV that's designed to make me laugh. I enjoyed the Kafka parody in Home Movies, and that show's quirky humor made me into a huge fan immediately; The Brak Show was a funny send-up of ye olde black and white family sitcoms, but it wasn't too surprising a departure from the previous Brak and Zorak shenanigans on Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and Cartoon Planet; Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law and Sealab 2021 probably got the biggest laughs out of me; and Cowboy Bebop ... what's not to like about Adult Swim? These shows are definitely geared towards an 18+ audience, though, people who will likely remember watching the original Hanna-Barbera cartoons on Saturday morning and can appreciate the more mature jokes. Sealab 2021, in particular, surprised me as to how bold Cartoon Network has gotten of late. I'm not complaining, by any means; in fact, quite the opposite is true. I hope to see a lot more out of Adult Swim in the future, and I hope the originality and edgy humor of the shows doesn't erode over time.

One key feature I noticed about the Adult Swim shows is that many of them had very catchy tunes, like Home Movies and Leave it to Brak. I've uploaded a few of the theme songs in the daily downloads directory located here that you can download for your listening pleasure.

Tonight, for the first time, I sampled Starfarers of Catan goodness. Good golly, this is an awesome board game! (Yes, I used "good golly" in a sentence, get over it.) It's like Settlers ... but in space! With cannons and pirates even! The random event cards really add a lot more flavor and variety to the basic Settlers game. To avoid possible confusion, Starfarers is a separate standalone game meant for 4 players. I'll definitely pick up a copy of the game to play with my Indianapolis crew when I head home next.

Talk about cartoons (and other sundries) in the BBoCS Forum.
